Rui Catalão
Rui Catalão (n.  Cacém, 1971) uses autobiography and the history of the places where he lived as tools to create fiction. His work deals with the border between private space and public space, memory, chance, fragility, transparent things, manipulation and how the act ff telling stories changes the perception of bodies. He is the author and performer of “Canções i comentários” (songs and comments, 2014), “Dentro das palavras (Inside words 2010), Av. Dos Bons Amigos (2013). In 2012 he presented “Melodrama for 2 actors & a ghost” and “Goya’s manifesto”, all presented in Teatro Maria Matos. He also made the solo “Auto-retrato assistido de Constantin Brancushi” (Galeria Appleton Square), and the group pieces Elogio da classe política portuguesa (praising of the portuguese politicians 2004); Domados, ou não (tamed or not, 2011, with the students of the dance school Balleteatro – Fundação Serralves). In Romania, he presented Atît de frageda (so frail, 2006), Follow that summer (2008), and the series of improvisation Acum totsi împreuna (all together now) and Rui (2008-2009, Centrul National al Dansului Bucuresti). As a dramaturgist he worked with Ana Borralho & João Galante, João Fiadeiro, Miguel Pereira, Manuel Pelmus, Brynjar Bandlien, Madalina Dan, Mihaela Dancs e Edi Gabia (with whom he presented “How to become invisible” in Festival de Avignon, 2011). He wrote the movie scripts for The Golden Helmet (dir. Jorge Cramez) and To die like a man (dir. João Pedro Rodrigues); he played a role in the movie The Face you deserve (dir. Miguel Gomes). He wrote the piece Ester for the programo f juvenile theater Panos 2013, in Culturgest; he was the editor and co-author of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker em Lisboa (INCM) and Ingredientes do Mundo Perfeito, about the stage work of Tiago Rodrigues. In the nineties he was a journalist and music critic.
