Matilda Carlota

Matilda Carlota

Matilda Carlota
Jonas Lopes

In this play, the audience members are invited to sit in the condition of voyeurs/paparazzi, looking at a set that remembers both the Baroque, and a grandmother's house.?Matilda Carlota is on stage.?An androgynous entity, pregnant, a diva in decay. This diva repeats a distorted and unpredictable tea ritual, sets the living room for guests that will never arrive. While the onion tea is being prepared, Matilda sings in lament an ancient aria by Giacomelli written for castrati, accompanied at the piano by her most loyal servant. The piano is slightly off key, and the chant is full of melancholia.?Matilda Carlota is a performance-opera where decadence gains a glamorous dimension, where the spectator is looking at a living room with the same meditative and sombre state he looks at the inside of an aquarium.
