Arrastão
Lander Patrick
Arrastão is a dance- concert, in which a performer / conductor directs real-time light, sound and public, inviting it to be actively engaged in the construction of rhythmic landscapes.?Through dance as seductive rhetoric, the conductor hysterically dodges light, sound and audience. Starting at first to attract the audience through orchestration’s dance, he coordinates music with light and silence with shadows, decibels with movement, blurs, focuses, changes the colour of light. Through this strobe of instructions, an inviting atmosphere is created, and the audience feels it's taking part of an interactive experience. Interactive in its real core, for while the audience is first seduced and then encouraged to participate in this "game", the conductor himself is physically affected by its response, which nurtures his own eccentricity.
Arrastão is a Portuguese word meaning “drag” and that has at the same time a double meaning: it refers to a massive fishing art, where a vessel uses a trawl net; and the same word alludes to an action orchestrated by several people, usually a gang, to perform a sudden robbery in highly populated areas (generally on beaches).
