The 1st. Lab, combining an arts&science residency and an international conference, took place between the 24th and the 29th May 2010 at the choreographic centre "O Espaço do Tempo" in Montemor-o-Novo, Portugal. The organization of a Conference at the end of a one-week Laboratory-in-residence has been an opportunity for academic researchers and artists to share both theoretical and practice-based knowledge around other Arts&Science projects in the intersection of the performing arts and the new digital media.
The research topic for the first Lab was "New models of documentation for contemporay dance", mainly focusing on the then emerging TKB project - while based on Rui Horta's material - and the follow-ups of the "Inside Movement Knowledge" project from Emio Greco/PC, Amsterdam, accommodating other research projects in this or similar domains, smaller or bigger-scale, based in Portugal or around the globe. At the crossings of cognitive linguistics, contemporary dance and new media, researchers on the choreographic work of Emio Greco l PC (Bertha Bermudez and Scott DeLahunta: DS/DM installation), Rui Horta (Carla Fernandes: TKB Project), Siobhan Davies (Sarah Wahtley: Archive Project) and William Forsythe (Norah Shaw: Synchronous Objects) have participated in the LAB and presented results at the public conference.
